Lumension Security Teams with Alcatel-Lucent to Provide Continuous Mobile Security

February 2008 by Marc Jacob

Lumension Security™ Inc., the specialist global security management company formed by PatchLink® Corporation and SecureWave, today announced a partnership with Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) that will integrate Lumension’s industry leading vulnerability and remediation management solution into Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian. The addition of PatchLink Update provides comprehensive security for mobile assets, protection against zero-day threats and helps enforce policy compliance for remote and mobile workers by facilitating on-demand remediation of laptops anywhere, anytime, even when the computer is turned off.

The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian is a revolutionary security and management system developed to monitor, manage and locate mobile computers and if necessary, to eliminate access to data if the mobile computer is lost or stolen. By 2009, the global mobile workforce is expected to grow by more than 20 percent, with 878 million people working remotely, according to a study by IDC¹. Additionally, according to a May 2007 report published by the National Vulnerability Database, 24 new vulnerabilities are identified every day, more than half of which are considered dangerous enough to warrant immediate remediation by IT departments.

Lumension’s PatchLink Update™ is utilized through the built-in 3G card to pre-cache critical patches during off-hours–allowing administrators to deliver best-of-breed patch management for laptops in the shortest time with the least impact on laptop resources and end-user productivity. In addition, the upcoming integration of Lumension’s Sanctuary Application and Device Control will allow expanded security for the OmniAccess 3500 by offering access to policy management and reporting for protection from data leakage and installation of unauthorized applications.
